Photographing Manchester & Salford came as they are cities closest to where I was born. Both with their own features but also with similar identities.
Manchester
Spending my life in these places has given me a good knowledge of them. I have spent many days around Manchester city centre. The regeneration of the city since the 1996 bombing has been vast. Manchester has a mixed blend of architecture. Modern along with buildings from its industrial roots.
The decline of the high street has affected most cities. Despite this, the desire to live centrally seems to increase. More apartments continue to rise throughout. The modern era architecture is successful to varying degrees. The increasing notion to redevelop old structures rather than rebuild is a pleasing balance.
More green spaces would benefit the city. Cities are never great to drive around. Pedestrianisation of busy areas would improve the enjoyment of many bars and restaurants. Public transport links on the increase, though far from perfect, backs this.
Salford
Salford Quays has had mass redevelopment. Not much remains from the days when the ship canal was thriving. The arrival of the BBC means it has continued to develop. The Lowry Theatre is a great building along with the War Museum across the water. In addition to Old Trafford football ground.
Photographing Manchester & Salford is ever-changing. As a result, always interesting. These photos are some of the first I had taken as a hobby. Therefore a collection I will return to in the future. However, focusing on the people around the areas more than currently. There are so many different faces around the region. The variation of interests is what makes the city.
