For my friend, Busola Peters’ birthday I created an acrylic portrait painting of him. Busola is a wonderful performer with many credits to his name. Most of all, one of my closest, most loyal friends.
I decided it would be nice to create something for his 30th birthday rather than buy it. Especially with the year that 2020 had been, meaning we couldn’t celebrate it as we would normally.
Created in a week, I did this portrait painting much faster than I had done previously. Partly as a challenge to myself but more so because Busola’s birthday was fast approaching. I wanted to incorporate metallic gold paint due to it being one of Busola’s favourite colour, which worked well in capturing his hair, iris and jewellery. Also, the necklace has the initials of two friends who recently passed. With the meaning of both of them always being with him.
I am happy with the outcome, with more time I may have done extra detailing. However, I think the feeling of doing something more or differently arrives after finishing any project. Knowing when to stop can be a talent in itself, for instance, a piece can give a less satisfactory outcome if overworked. I stopped when I was happy with the look and feel, moreover where I thought Busola would be pleased with it overall.
I would have liked to frame the canvas, but it was difficult to sort because of Covid and a lack of time, also because I wasn’t sure where the painting would get positioned. Busola was happy with the gift, which was vital to this piece. See more of Busola on Instagram and Youtube.
A previous piece is my painting of a lion. You can also look at some of my other web, graphic or photography projects.
